Watford needs your help to celebrate town’s heroes

Every day in Watford, people are positively contributing to our town and improving the lives of fellow residents. These actions often go unrewarded, but you can change this by voting for one of these outstanding individuals in the Mayor’s Award category of the Audentior Awards.

The Mayor’s Award, sponsored by Warner Bros, celebrates the outstanding contribution of an individual to our town. A shortlist of three outstanding people has been announced and you can now vote for your favourite at On the shortlist are:

• #1: Sam Torabi works within the local community to improve the confidence and health of people, with his energy and enthusiasm motivating those around him. Sam has also worked with the Peace Hospice to deliver exercise groups to patients and has taken part in and organised numerous charity events to raise money for them.

• #2: Roy Moore established the 1881 Club to improve the matchday experience for Watford FC fans. He is unpaid and his dedication and devotion to the club and town are legendary. He raises funds for the many fan displays, helps run a foodbank and organises Christmas gifts for children in Watford General Hospital. He also helped with the impressive displays for this year’s FA Cup finals.

• #3: Alison Thomas has dedicated 30 years of her life helping vulnerable women make positive and lasting changes in their lives. Thousands of women have benefit from Alison’s selfless and caring attitude. Along with colleagues she created a domestic abuse awareness course My Life which was developed to help women under the cycle of abuse, recognise abusive behaviours and set acceptable boundaries.

Elected Mayor of Watford Peter Taylor said: “Thank you to all the Watford residents who put forward their everyday heroes for the Audentior Awards. I now need your help deciding who the winner of the Mayor’s award should be because we have three outstanding contenders.

“I would also like to congratulate all the nominees in the other seven categories. They all do wonderful things for our community. The Audentior Awards are a chance to say thank you to people who deserve to be recognised.”
