Weston Opticians: 5 Top Tips for keeping your eyes healthy

As part of Wellness Week, here's five top tips for keeping your eyes healthy from Harsha Shah, Optometrist and Practice Owner of Weston Opticians.

1. EAT HEALTHY FOOD

As part of a healthy diet, choose foods rich in antioxidants and Vitamin A and C. Leafy green vegetables, carrots, red, green and yellow peppers and all colourful vegetables are recommended.

2. WEAR SUNGLASSES

Wear good quality sunglasses to protect the eyes from harmful UltraViolet light.

3. STOP SMOKING

Smoking significantly increases the risk of developing eye diseases such as Cataracts and Age Related Macular Degeneration.
IT IS NEVER TOO LATE TO STOP SMOKING.

4. AVOID DRY EYES

Eyes become dry and sore if you are not producing enough tears or have poor quality tears. Drink plenty of water, take Omega 3 supplements and use lubricating eye drops to soothe the irritation.

5. HAVE REGULAR EYE EXAMINATIONS.

An Eye Examination can help detect signs of general health conditions such as diabetes, high cholesterol and high blood pressure.
