Experience Watford’s Christmas Lights, events, and festive dining options that the town centre has to offer this winter

Head to Watford town centre this winter for a brand-new Christmas lights display that features twinkling LED lights in trees and on lampposts up and down the High Street, culminating in a giant twinkly LED Christmas tree beside the pond. The Christmas lights will illuminate Watford throughout the festive season and complement the fantastic range of activities and events taking place in the town centre, which can be found on the brand-new Winter in Watford website.

Watford’s one of the first towns in the country to use this brand-new LED technology in its festive lighting. The lights, which are funded by town centre businesses and Watford Borough Council, were switched on during a spectacular event on Saturday 13th November, organised by Watford Business Improvement District (BID) and headlined by the X Factor Winners and local R&B group Rak-Su. There was a huge crowd on The Parade to enjoy the wonderful entertainment on stage, which also included Electric Umbrella, Watford Palace’s pantomime characters and jazz musician Georgina Jackson, with Watford Vibe 107.6FM and BBC Three counties presenter Miles Blumsom as MC.

Rak-Su were joined on stage at 5pm for the switching-on of the lights by five of Watford’s ‘Unsung Heroes’ - local people who had been recognised by Watford Council for providing outstanding service to the local community. They then continued to perform and entertain the crowd for another half an hour, posing for photos and chats with fans once off stage.

The switch on event marked the launch of this year’s Winter in Watford guide. Now running for its 6th year,, showcases everything going on in Watford town centre in the lead-up to Christmas.

The Winter in Watford website includes a calendar of events, festive dining options with links to their Christmas menus and party bookings, a direct link to purchase a Watford gift card, and winter activities you can enjoy including the grand opening of Puttshack mini golf. You can plan out your festive season whilst seeing our stunning new Christmas lights and capturing photos to share on social media with the hashtag #WinterInWatford – Watford BID will be sharing the best ones!

A full album of photos from the Switch-on event can be found on Watford BID’s Facebook page – and a short film, which captures the event perfectly, can be found on the BID’s YouTube channel.
