Don’t lose your voice - residents urged to vote in upcoming election
Local residents are being advised not to lose their voice on matters that affect them by voting in the upcoming general election on 12 December.
Polling cards have already issued to all those already registered to vote, providing details of where their polling station is. For those who have just registered to vote, you will receive your registration confirmation poll card shortly. All polling stations will be open from 7am to 10pm on the day of the election.
The deadline for registering to vote and for postal voting has now closed. However, anybody who is registered, but unable to attend their polling station can still apply for a proxy vote (which means someone else can vote on your behalf). Go to www.watford.gov.uk/proxyvote before 5pm, 4 December.
Residents who have signed up for a postal vote are being encouraged to return them to the elections office as soon as possible.
Elections Returning Officer, Manny Lewis said: "Exercising your right to vote is an important part of our democratic process and I would encourage all Watford residents who are eligible to vote to go to your polling station and not miss out on making your vote count. If you can’t get to a polling station on the 12 December, then there is still time to apply for a proxy vote. We want a high turnout for the Watford constituency.”
In the past two local elections Watford took part in a Cabinet Office pilot scheme aimed at clamping down on voter fraud and voters were asked to bring a form of photo id with them to the polling station. This pilot scheme is now finished so there is no requirement for people to bring any additional ID with them, but bringing your poll card with you to the polling station does help speed up the process.
Counting for the election will take place overnight on 12 December into the early morning of 13 December 2019 when the winning candidate will be announced. Any residents who have any questions can contact their local registration team at 01923 278369 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
