COVID-Safe, Outdoor Christmas Adventure Game launching in Watford!

Town Centre Games Ltd, part of VIRE Ltd, is launching a brand-new, Christmas-themed adventure game, ‘Help the Elf Service!’ in Watford Town Centre this December, with thanks to Watford Borough Council, Watford BID, and Visit Watford who are all sponsoring the project.

Santa has a problem. He has realised that Watford doesn’t have enough elves to help him deliver all the presents this year – it could be a disaster. He needs to find replacements and has set a challenge for all wannabe-elves: they need to prove themselves worthy!

You and your team will need to collect present tokens, hidden around town. The more tokens, the more highly Santa will rate you. To complete your challenge, you will use a specially designed phone app, through which your clues will be delivered via exciting Augmented Reality (AR) technology.

Actors will be put in place around the town centre, playing the roles of real Christmas characters who will interact with teams during the game and deliver an added dimension (keep an eye out for mean elves who might be following you to steal your tokens!).

The game aims to bring fun, originality, and excitement to Watford during the festive season! The game is entirely COVID-safe, as the only items that teams need to touch are their own phones, and teams are limited to no more than six people.

Elected Mayor of Watford, Peter Taylor said: “I am delighted we are working with the ‘Help Santa Save Christmas!’ game in the Town Centre this November. The game will bring an uplifting atmosphere to the town during the festive period, at a time when we need positivity more than ever to help us through what is looking to be a slightly different celebration this year.

As a town, we have to make sure we don’t stand still this Christmas, that is why we are finding creative and unique new ways to support our high street. The game is entirely COVID-secure with teams being limited to six people and the only items that teams need to touch are their own phones. This means it can be safely enjoyed by all and will hopefully bring some festive spirit after the particularly challenging year we’ve all had.”

Town Centre Games Ltd is introducing the game following the successful launch of a history-themed challenge game this summer at Berkhamsted Castle, an English Heritage site, which was sold out in two months with rave reviews.

Owner Ian Cox said, “With the proven success of our outdoor game concept, we wanted to offer the residents of Watford the chance to play a fun, immersive, COVID-secure game this Christmas that all ages can enjoy. The game will be launched at reduced prices too, so that more people will be able to share the magic of Christmas with their loved ones, after a particularly difficult and challenging year.”

‘Help the Elf Service!’ is launching on 8th December, is an hour in duration and is available after school on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, and every weekend until New Years Day!

Prices just £7 per person, under 7s play free. 2-6 players maximum. Wheelchair friendly.
